Way To Go A-Hole
By: Brett
Blockbuster just sent me an email stating that my $14.99 monthly subscription to their 2 DVDs - Unlimited In-store exchanges will be bumped up to $21.99. They weren’t going to automatically renew my subscription at the end of the month, I had to either keep my current rate but only get 3 in store exchanges or have to move to the $21.99 plan. This has put a damper on my whole Blockbuster Total Access experience.
For me the entire program has been an awesome money saver. Each time I would goto the store before, I would easily drop 15-20 dollars on movies so it has saved me at least 30 bucks every month. I don’t really mind paying the extra bump in price because it’s still a better deal with the in store exchanges. I just believe that it’s pretty shady practice to just change your rates by 40 percent. I can understand of it’s a buck or two, fine.
This is also damaging to Blockbuster: Netflix has just dropped their 3 DVD a month service by a dollar now only at $16.99. Makes you wonder if Netflix caught word of Blockbuster coming out with these new price points and wanted to get even a better advantage. I have read quite a few posts on this and read some comments on the forums and Digg where hundreds of people just on there have already canceled their subscriptions all together. I’m thinking of waiting just before my cycle date and see if Blockbuster doesn’t do something to remedy this situation.

Dude, you need to jump on the Netflix bandwagon. I’ve been with them for about a year and I’ve had no complaints whatsoever.
I don’t think the “you can drop of your DVD at any local blockbuster, and get a new one” gimmick sells me with Blockbuster. I’m trying to get away from the driving to the store, and searching manually for a DVD in a store.
Besides most of the time the other people looking for rentals in a Blockbuster smell. Not to mention the line you usually have to wait in.
Netflix is the way to go. And now they’re activating accounts to stream movies over the web! (Windows only *sad music here*)

The whole drop of your DVD in the store was awesome because if I got a movie like The Hills Have Eyes 2 (Worst Film Ever) in the mail.. I could take that piece of sh.. crap to the store and get a far superior film like Bubble (Second Worst Film Ever). Plus if I want the new DVD on Tuesday.. I just go there in the afternoon and wha-lah.
I’m a NOW guy so it works out for me. Plus instead of putting them in the mail I just bring them back and while I’m waiting for the ones to come in the mail.. I get to rent 2 free ones in addition to the ones that are coming in the mail. Just swap your mail orders for store rentals and you’re set.
It’s a great deal and I think it was a lot better then Netflix but now that I’m getting boned hardcore.. I’m thinking of switching.

Blockbuster stopped shipping movies to me even though my subscription has not yet ended. I was billed on 8/20 which covers up to 9/19. On the first week of Sept Blockbuster just stopped sending movies to me. When I asked why, their response is that my membership has been cancelled because I did not make a selection from their new subscription offers. I asked for a refund of the balance of the period - their response - free 2 weeks offer if I renew my membership. I think this is an unfair practice which should be investigated.
