By: Brett

Smashing Magazine is always coming up with massive lists of just about everything on the web and tools for developers/designers. Their recent posting is exactly what I am looking for. I am a huge fan of reference books and inspiration ideas. 80 percent of my library consists of books with tutorials, how-to, inspirations, latest trends, and just about everything else dealing with web development/design. Everything I know today is from teaching myself and learning from books and others. So anyways this list is 40 or more of the best books for Web development. Definitely check them out. 40+ Books for Professional Design & Development

For Inspiration: I like the Web Index books. They feature thousands of sites, color coded. It’s great for getting color schemes and layout ideas.

Tutorials/Trends: I would highly recommend a couple magazines. Web Designer for one and then Arts Projects I believe is the other one. Usually if you goto Barnes and Noble they have 2 or 3 that are sweet. They are from the UK so you’re going to pay a little more than usual.

Usability Book: “Don’t Make Me Think.” It’s a great book on how people generally view your site and ways of testing and developing your site to meet those needs.

I would say that inspiration books are my favorite. They help get your ideas rolling and if you mix and match and mold enough you come out with some awesome designs.
