My Own Hyprocrisy

I might be the biggest critic when it comes to songs on the radio. They totally take a good song and beat it into submission, then all the teeny boppers and everyone else wearing eye-liner destroy a song and a band. I can’t blame MTV so much anymore cause they don’t play any music, but anything on their is forever forgotten for (lots of fors there) me. I just have this huge thing with other people listening and going crazy over the songs I listen to I guess. I don’t like to see good bands go mainstream and their concert prices jump up to 35-40 bucks a pop, cause that usually means the beer is more expensive too.
The problem with my compliant on all of this, is that when I hear a good song I usually destroy the song myself. I’ve been don’t know listen to one song a good 50 times in one day. I don’t really think there’s anything wrong with that, but I guess if I’m complaining about the radio doing the same.. but the radio doesn’t always play cool songs, a majority of them blow. If you’re in your car for a good hour.. you can usually start hearing a few repeats. Either way.. I guess I’m a hypocrite.. oh well.

i was in the car with my parents a couple weeks ago, we were talking about something, and then all of a sudden they got quiet, and i was wondering what the heck was going on, when all of a sudden, perfectly together, right on cue, they sing ‘hey there delilah, what’s it like in new york city?’
anyway i don’t really get the whole thing where people stop liking a band because other people like it? i mean i understand if the band changes their sound to become more mainstream or whatever, then totally, it makes sense. but if it’s the same band, just with more fans? isn’t the music still the same?
i will listen to the same song 20 times in a row… and sometimes get sick of it… but i think if really is a great song, it doesn’t get old. or maybe it does for awhile, but you can come back to it later and it will still be awesome.

Yesh definitely.. I think bands that do end up going mainstream also change their sound to a more produced and popish feel.
Could use Fall Out Boy as a perfect example. Or Good Charlotte. Both of those bands I thought were awesome. But the major producers got a hold of them and completely changed their sound and appeal.

Good post man. I cannot stand when a little band i found opening a concert for a bigger band all of sudden become mainstream. It totally ruins the band for me. I know, it is wrong to wish a band failure just so I can be cool and be the only one listening to them but that is me. I cannot think of how many bands I used to love that I will not sniff at now. I have a collection of used cds if you want them. I love going to concerts and see that barely anyone knows the band i am there to see. Show me a band that went mainstream and kept their sound and I will pay you a million dollars. Greenday is pretty close, but they are in class all alone. I am just hoping that the fashion statement of wearing tight jeans, t-shirts and cons wears off and only the people that really listen to the music and go to real concerts in run down shit holes are left.

I agree with hating the radio, that’s why I never listen to it. Here’s my usual scenario: I find a good new band/song, put it on my ipod in my car and listen for a few weeks. Then I’m in my car with my gf and that good band/song comes on the ol’ playlist and she’s like “I love this song. It’s on the radio all the time.” It is usually promptly removed from my iPod.

The radio consists of My Chemical Romance and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. Both bands I used to like but went through the pop grinder and turned into cuddly little stuffed animals for all the 13 year olds.
