Gotta Love the Teen Music Scene

17
October

Tonight Saosin, Norma Jean, Alexisonfire, and The Dear & Departed will be preforming at Jannus Landing. Hands down the greatest place to watch a show, especially during this time of year. It’s an outside venue that’s located in the middle of a city block. Leland and I always thought it would be the greatest place to live, cause of all the sweet shows you’d catch. Well tonight is going to be a great show.

We first heard Saosin when we met our friend Rob. They were playing at the Orpheum in downtown Ybor (Tampa, FL). I believe they were either the first or second band to play that night, and to tell you the truth I wasn’t all that impressed. I liked them but it wasn’t the best I have ever heard. Then about a year later they released their first full-length album. The CD completely blew me away. Every song is very well crafted and unique in their own way. I have probably listened to the entire CD in it’s entirety 200 times.

I’m also a pretty big fan of Alexisonfire too. Not big on the whole screaming part, but the lead guitarist (Dallas) has one of the best voices I have heard. His solo work, City of Colour (He’s Canadian), is amazing. A definite addition to any music collection. I’m planning on the night going something like this:

  • Get to Jannus just before 7:00pm, as the first band is just starting.
  • Quickly grab a huge $8 Bud Light.
  • Proceed to our designated viewing spot (Right around mid-court, next to the sound board).
  • BS about how sweet the concert is going to be, ignoring the first band
  • Rock out like a 13 year old for Alexisonfire
  • Listen to Norma Jean and talk about all of the suicidal teenagers, “Death is my Bitch Lover..” “You tell that mean ocean Todd.”
  • Go crazy for Saosin. (Crazy as in nod our heads and cheer after each song.)
  • Reminisce how great of a concert it was with Leland.
  • Go home.
  • And that’s pretty much it. Each concert has it’s ups and downs, but really they are all about the same. The music ends up being great, by the bands we goto see and the other bands leave something to be desired. I think the greatest part about these concerts though, is that it’s still the time when Leeks and I throw back some tasty beverages and just have a good time. Definitely excited about the show.

Best Beer In The World

25
September

I’d just like to take a moment out of my Monday night and say that Leinenkugel’s Sunset Wheat might be the greatest beer of all time. If you haven’t had the pleasure of downing a few six packs of this, you should definitely put that on your calendar for tomorrow. It tastes a lot like a Blue Moon but with a more citrus brewed flavor. I have got to the point where it doesn’t even taste like beer anymore. You know it’s bad when you go to grab a beer instead of a soda (pop for the Northerns). I used to be a huge Bud Light fan, mainly for the fact that a case of Bud Light was a smart choice for Beer Pong tournaments. My top five beers:

5: PBR (Only for the White Trash factor)
4: Killians
3: New Castle
2. Miller Lite
1. Leine’s Sunset Wheat

I’d like to hear of some other brews that I can order while at Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch.. then again for dinner.

Great Songs From Great Concerts

17
September

Leland and I went to a pretty sweet concert this weekend. There were a couple bands we were familiar with, and then one that seemed to be the crowd favorite that we didn’t. One of the bands we went to go see, didn’t disappoint, the other did. In all it was a good concert, filled with loads of “NO” kids. “NO” is what they put in big black permanent letters on the hands of kids under 21. I’m not sure if it’s for the bartenders or predators. Anyways, while sitting around after the concert, Leland and I were trying to come up with the best concert ever. Who would play, if only for one song.. and you could choose 10 bands.

Obviously the time it takes to change stage doesn’t matter, just 10 of your best concert songs from your favorite bands, or not so favorite bands. It’s all about concert experience. I have seen bands that totally rock on stage, but suck otherwise.. or even bands that sound awesome on their CD then totally blow live (more often).

Here is my list, in no specific order:

Days Away - Keep Your Voices Down
MXPX - The Darkets Places
Armor For Sleep - Dream To Make Believe
Less Than Jake - Look What Happened
Taking Back Sunday - Cute Without The “E”
Receiving End of Sirens - Planning A Prison Break
Fall Out Boy - The Patron Saint of Liars and Fakes
Alexisonfire - Accidents
Matchbook Romance - Promise
Moneen - Start Angry…And Mad

Those are probably the most memorable songs from concerts that I have been too. I’m sure I have missed a couple and Leland will be able to add to this list.. but I’d like to hear of other great songs from great concerts.

Growing Old: Over the Weekend

12
September

I am apparently living in a 60 year olds body. I struggle to get into my car, my chair, out of the couch, off the pot, wipe my own ass.. It all started the other day when I was getting ready for my baseball game. I was all set to leave when I grabbed my hat and tried putting it on my head. I guess my head has gained about 10 lbs. since the last time wore a hat, so I snugged down on my hat, straining my neck in the process. I had about a 60 degree range of motion with my

Joe Dirt “In The Flesh”

5
August

I ran across this awesome picture tonight and thought I’d share it with you all. Here’s a list of my favorite bands: “Here’s a list of my favorite bands: AC/DC, Van Halen not Van Hagar, Skynyrd, Def Lepp..” I mean it’s not quite as cool as a “G” tattoo but it’s close. Life is a Garden, Dig it. Just keep on keeping on

Almost Murdered A Guy

30
July

On Saturday I threw for the St. Pete Saints of the Clearwater/Tampa League.. we played the New York Yankees.. no wait, the Clearwater Yankees. I could’ve sworn I saw David Wells though.. must’ve been some other white trash drunk. We were up 20-0 in the bottom of the sixth or seventh, not quite sure because the game was so slow, our guys were literally walking around the bases. So anyways, I go out there for one inning. My arm is killing me by the way, but I still try to throw like it’s game 7 of the Clearwater League World Series. I get the first guy to pop up to second. The next two guys hit missle rods back up the middle, one almost killing our

Don’t Be A Flatliner Dude

17
July

This is probably one of the funniest skits I have seen on Crank Yankers. If you’re not all that familiar with Crank Yankers, it’s a show where they have had comedians call up or get called up, and just mess with the caller. Then they act out these little puppets to the call. In this video a lady has called what she thought was UPS but instead got the Crank Yanker team. This video has a lot of history in the CK Townhome era. Many a nights of beer-pong and watching this skit.

Almost Done With The Updates

15
July

It has been a long long time since any type of post. I just wanted to apologize for the lack of attention. It has been a pretty crazy last month, well not really but I like to sound as if I’m busy. I have been working on a few new web projects, creating logos, finished up some print materials, and moving Bryce down to Florida. Reena and I have also started some house shopping, so things are getting pretty
